Books and Needles

Blogger is having issues, so you may need to log in again to leave a comment. I really appreciate it.
Monday I went to the library to mill around while I waited for my daughter to get out of school. Well...giggle...I didn't exactly get out free and clear. When all was said and done I ended up leaving with an armful of knitting books. As you can see, I really couldn't fit any more on that arm if I tried. These are all stitch books cause I plan to design a couple of summer things with the yarn I've been so patiently waiting for. Don't I look more than a tad bit happy?
In other news! Yesterday I picked up another needle. I'm swatching for my next project. However, the needles that I have are either too large or small. Yadda, yadda...anywhoo, I ran over to Michael's to get a Susan Bates needle. All my Michael's has now is Clover and Boye. Clover didn't have the size I needed so I had to get Boye. Boye oh Boye! What I liked better about SB needles is the cable is much softer and the needles have the sizes etched into them. Neither is true of Boye. I can't switch the cables because they fit differently on the needles. At least they came in a little ziplock bag with the cardboard that has the size on it. Well, they've taken that away now and it's just the cardboard now. So the baggie has to be supplied by muah! It's been a while since I used my Boyes because I've been knitting on my machine for so long and my last project was knitted using my SB needle, so picking up this Boye again is not the same experiece now that I've used something softer. They really are as rigid as they look in the photos. It actually looks like an antenna. LOL! Now that I'm getting back to hand-knitting, it's time for a nice little set of needles. I don't want to make my own cables or anything like that. Rumor has it that Addi Turbos have incredibly soft and flexible cables. Anyone have any opinions on Knitpicks interchangable nickel-plated or Addi Turbo? Or if anyone has experience with both and can compare. That would be great too.

I have used both Addi's and Knitpicks nickel. They are both lightning quick. The Addi's sometimes cause me issues moving the sts over the join and the Knitpicks can sometimes have issues with the joins. For the price, Knitpicks would be the better option. But, you can't buy them locally, you have to order. And then, you might as well just order enough to get free shipping. So, beware!! They may cost less, but you'll end up spending more. LOL!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your picture at the library. You look like you're almost floating in happiness.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Knit Picks needles. Since using the interchangeables (I love the Harmony wood, but also have the nickel and like those too), I have trouble using any other kind of circulars. The cables are insanely flexible. As far as their nickel needles, they're crazy fast and slippery. So, from me, HUGE thumbs up to Knit Picks needles. I like them much more than SBs, Hiya Hiya or Addi

Ugh, blogger was giving me issues too, it was a total pain. This is really interesting, I don't think I've yet to come across my perfect knitting needles yet. I've heard very good things about hiya hiya needles, though!

Julie- Thank you. Hiya Hiya has some really tiny sizes. Will definitly keep them in mind for that reason alone.

I love the Knit Picks TIPS...I HATE the fact that my cables keep breaking on me. And I'm not rough on them at all. They've replaced them when I called to request new ones (they have awesome customer service), but they have broken on me so much that I've gotten a bit frustrated. And this is not just something that has happened to me, but to multiple knitting friends. Just a couple days ago, the cable came apart from the tip on a friend who was knitting a shrug...a TON of stitches got dropped.

Well that cinches it! I've heard that one too many times about Knitpicks. I thought it was just the Harmony wood needles. Initially I was looking at those cause they're so beautiful. But it appears the problem is with their needles in general.
Knitpicks is out!

I also read complaints about the yarn catching on the area where the Addi needles click to the cable. That's still better than the join coming loose. But I could see how that could be a headache. However, I guess they're all give and take. So far Addi, Susan Bates Velocity, are at the top of the list because they're both both straight needles.
